Happy Tail for Mickey

Happy Tail for Mickey

Mickey joined my family on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, that was the day we began our two week trial period but I knew as soon as I picked him up that I was going to be his forever home.

Mickey came to my attention actually after a dear friend of mine adopted a dog as well, a little blind puppy named Echo.  I had been considering a new puppy and then thought “hey, why not take a look at the dogs up for adoption”.  I began my search half-heartedly given I am a bit limited to the type of dog I can have being an asthmatic with extremely bad allergies to just about everything.   Have faith if you are in the same boat, you can have a dog!

I currently have a miniature schnauzer named Henry so knew I could tolerate that breed easily and he’s been a complete joy.  When I saw Mickey I was so excited.  I won’t deny that initially I was a bit apprehensive given Mickey was nearly 14yrs old but that lasted long enough for me to take a breath and I knew he needed to be a part of my family.   Mickey had been saved from being euthanized and I am so thankful to the 4 Luv of Dog Rescue saving this incredible little guys life because he truly does have so much life yet in him, it was only fair to let him live it entirely.  He has only 8 teeth left and arthritis but he manages to eat like a champ and is amazingly playful with Henry.  It’s so fun to watch.

In reading through the other Happy Tails I was touched especially by Ellen’s story about Tillie, and thought I couldn’t have worded it better than she did when she said:  “See, in this house it doesn’t matter if you can’t see well, don’t have any teeth, need your food chopped into tiny bits, can’t really hear, your kidneys don’t work the best and you are old. You will still be loved.”

Thank you 4 Luv of Dog Rescue for bringing Mickey into my and Henry’s life.  I applaud all the great work that you do.  The volunteers are amazing and have the biggest hearts, they truly are the meaning of kindness.
