Happy Tail Stories!

Below are “Happy Tail” stories about dogs adopted from the 4 Luv of Dog Rescue who have found their forever home. If you adopted a dog from us and would like to share your “Happy Tail” story with us, please email pics and a brief write-up to happytail@4luvofdog.org.

Happy Tail for Jasper

This is Jasper, totally exhausted after a hard day of playing. We lost our 13 yr old Belgian Malinous to cancer in April 2011. We knew we wanted to adopt another rescue. We adopted Jasper in August of this year. Jasper is a terrific little guy who loves to play and help out around the house in whatever we are doing. I am retired and he is my constant companion. He loves to ride in the car but has not yet figured out he is not allowed to drive. But that doesn’t stop him from trying. Were working on that. My wife and I can’t thank 4luvofdog rescue enough for giving homeless dogs like Jasper a second chance. Thank you for all your hard work.

Happy Tail for Violet

I thought when I met Violet that it would be a good match but I didn’t realize how good it was to be for this reason: My dad has always been the caregiver, to us growing up, to my mom when she was sick, and recently to siblings needing assist after illnesses, etc. Violet, as a dog with special needs, has given him back the role as caregiver and the sense of being needed, which he enjoys, especially now in retirement. The three of them (dad and his other dog) are on the road again today on the way to AZ to my aunt’s who is having shoulder surgery this week. Chances are he will go onto CA to my sister’s after that so that they all can meet her. I can say that he is gaga over her!

Thanks!

Happy Tail for Bravo!

We adopted Bravo in April, 2011.  He has been a wonderful addition to our family, and loves to play with our boxer Louie! We recently moved into a larger home with a much bigger back yard and it is so great to see the dogs run and play!

It is amazing to my husband and I how different two dogs can be, Louie is very much an overgrown lap dog, and Bravo is more independent; yet they still love the play and cuddle with each other.  Bravo may not be as much of a softie as our other dog but he still loves to give kisses to anyone that will stand still for it!

Bravo is a very interesting looking dog and we are constantly told what a handsome boy he is (he has also been a wonderful model for developing photography business!).

We are so thankful for 4 Luv of Dog, they brought a perfect little (60lb) puppy into our family and we are truly grateful!

Happy Tail for Lexi!

The saying “Who Rescued Who” is our motto and we couldn’t imagine our lives without each other.  Lexi was living in a box on the side of the highway, surviving on bugs before she was found by 4 Love of Dog Rescue at just 8 weeks old. I had been looking for at least a year for the perfect dog and when Lexi and I met, we knew we were meant for each other.

I got Lexi when she was 10 weeks old. She defiantly showed her Lab breed as a puppy and has grown into a very smart, obedient dog.  She enjoys running out in the country at her “Grandma and Grandpa’s” and has made so many friends at the Dog Park and Dog Daycare.  Her favorite thing is swimming though; she will go for hours! She loves participating in local events like “Dog Prom”, awareness walks, and dog shows. She recently won “Best Trick” at the West Fargo Dog Show 2011.

We will be celebrating 2 years together this fall and want to thank Kish and everyone with 4 Luv of Dog Rescue  for bringing us together. We wish that every animal out there could have such a loving, happy story like our own.

Happy Tail for Echo (Koby)

I adopted Koby, now renamed Echo, from 4 Luv of Dog Rescue in October, 2010. Echo was a perfect fit with my now trio of cairn terriers from the start. He is a big part of my dog walking business because he can get along with every kind of dog and is always ready to go to work. Most of my clients remember Echo’s name before mine, my best advertiser!

It was well worth the 530 mile round trip to Fargo to get this great little dog. Thank you for a wonderful lifetime companion and co-worker.

Happy Tail for Annie (Suzi)

Our family adopted Annie in April 2009.  She is such a sweet dog and has been such a blessing for our family. Thank you for rescuing Annie and placing her with us.

Happy Tail for Lady

Lady “smiling”

My husband and I adopted Lady, a 5-year-old petite husky mix, from 4 Luv of Dog at the end of April.  We can’t believe how quickly we fell in love with her! She has become a great addition to our new home, and she brightens up our lives every single day. She fits in with our lifestyle perfectly, and I can’t wait to go home to her at the end of a long workday.

Lady with her favorite piggy toy!

Thank you for putting Lady in our lives! Though it’s sad to think about how she bounced from home to home, place to place before we found her, now she’s found her forever home and we couldn’t be happier.

Thank you for all of the good you do as an organization, and thank you for making all 3 of our lives a little brighter :o

Happy Tail for Chauser

We adopted Chauser in December of 2010 and we feel so blessed that we are his forever family! At first we were a little worried since we have another Cairn Terrier and a baby, but he adjusted to us immediately. It was as though Chauser knew that this was his home and where he was meant to be. Chauser is such a little lover and a good natured dog! He loves everyone and manages to put a smile on everyone’s faces. Thank you so much for everything that you did for Chauser. We are forever grateful!

Happy Tail for Chance

My sister and I adopted Chance only a week ago and we can already tell that he was meant to live with us.  We are madly in love with him and we can tell that the feeling is mutual.  It is hard to tell who is happiest out of all of us.  :)  Chance likes to be right by our sides no matter where we are.  He loves to snuggle on the couch, go for walks, chew on rawhides and toys, play fetch in the yard and play in his new puppy pool.  Oh, how he loves that pool!!  He also loves to play with his new “cousin,” my aunt and uncle’s chocolate lab.

My sister and I grew up with labs and have known for a long time that we wanted to adopt one of our own.  We knew we would love any dog, but our bond with Chance has become even deeper and stronger than we could have imagined.  We absolutely could not be happier having Chance in our home.

Thank you!!

Happy Tail for Harley

We live on a lake and tonite I was on the dock fishing.. Harley and Maisy were with me. Harley kept jumping off the dock to try to catch the little fish he could see in the water. Somebody forgot to tell him that Shih Tzu dogs don’t like water. It was pretty funny!

Just wanted to let you know that Harley is truly a wonderful dog and is already a part of the family. He loves the big yard and chasing after the squirrels but they are way to fast for him. He sits at the tree for a long time waiting for them to come down..we sure enjoy watching his antics. We want to make sure you have no doubts about your decision to let Harley come to live with us. He and Maisy get along well and we love him to bits. He follows my husband around the yard and he loves being in the garage with him. Thanks again for choosing us to give a home to Harley. We are so grateful. We think what you all do is very important and we love Harley so much already.

Happy Tail for Kobie

We adopted Kobie when she was about two months old and we’ve had her for nearly a year. Kobie loves her new home and all the attention she receives. She can never get enough attention!  Kobie definitely doesn’t like her kennel as much as she loves being out, moving around with us!  Her favorite things are playing with other dogs, eating… anything, and going for runs.

Having another member to our family has really made us complete. We all love to go outside and enjoy nature on the many bike rides and runs that we do. Kobie has become such a part of our daily lives and we really enjoy having her companionship!

It’s really fun to look back at the photos of Kobie when she was just a puppy! Kobie was the quiet, puffy haired one and we loved her demeanor; that is why we picked her.  When we got her away from her brothers and sisters, we realized quite quickly that she wasn’t the “quiet one” anymore!  Now she is growing up to be a mature dog but still has lots of puppy left in her!

  Thanks!

~Josh & Kristin

Happy Tail for Louie

After the loss of our 6-year old Cane Corso, we wanted to get another dog mostly so that our puggle, Lucy, would have someone to run and play with, not to mention help any separation anxiety from the loss of our other dog.

We didn’t have a good experience when we purchased the puggle, Lucy, from a local pet store in the FM area so we looked into rescue dogs. I had gone to PetSmart a few times to see all of the dogs available and wanted them all as I love dogs, but eventually we decided on ‘Pugsley’ who we have since renamed Louie, as in King Louie. Louie is, from what we can figure out, part chihuahua, pug, jack russel and who knows what else……..lol

When we brought Louie home the first day, we put him in the backyard with our puggle, they sniffed each other for like 2 seconds and took off running around the yard together, like they had been playing together for years. Instant chemistry.

Louie has adjusted well in his forever home in the last year since we received him. He enjoys patrolling his big backyard, barking at the neighbors, running around, going for walks to the park and playing with his sister. He has also tackled the box of rawhides and toys we’ve accumulated over the years and is always finding something new.

We’ve had very little to no problems at all with Louie and are happy we have him and wish we had the means to give all of the needy dogs a forever home. Everyone I hear talking about getting a dog, I recommend going to 4 Luv or at least another rescue place instead of pet stores.

Thank you……. :)

Happy Tail for Levi (Kota)

I adopted “Kota” who now goes by “Levi”. Levi is quite the handful and his personality is really starting to show through. It took him quite some time to adjust though and we’ve had some hurdles along the way.

When we adopted Levi, he was aged around 5. The veterinarians have all aged him closer to 2 or 3 years old. When Levi first came to us he didn’t know how to play with other dogs. We noticed that he would act up or become aggressive whenever the other dogs tried to play. I finally took him into a chiropractor who said he had a lot of pain in his neck. A few adjustments and regular massage at home made a huge difference! He actually played with a toy. This summer I had xrays taken where we found some bone spurs in his neck that further showed he probably was injured at some point in his life. Because of all of this, we can’t use a regular collar with Levi and instead use a Gentle Leader. With a bit of regular maintenance he feels so much better!

Levi also has severe allergies to the environment. He’s allergic to things like dust, pollen, molds, and grass. He’s not a huge fan of allergy shots but they are making a difference. He also takes medications to keep his allergies quiet. The veterinary dermatologists at McKeever Dermatology take great care of him and are helping him be a dog. If his allergies are out of control he gets grumpy and cranky. We had to test him twice to pick up all of his allergies but we’re working to make him feel better. Between getting his allergies under control and making his neck & back feel better we have a whole new dog. It’s definately a good thing his new owner is a vet student who can keep him healthy! Maybe that’s why he was so hard to place, he new what kind of owner he needed.

It took almost a year to get to this point but he now plays with other dogs. He wants to make doggie friends and is social. It is so much fun to watch him play and interact with other dogs. He has so much attitude and personality it’s funny. It’s been an interesting year watching him transform into the dog he is today. All he wants is to be loved and prefers to curl up on the couch between us to get his tummy rubbed.

I attached some photos, the one on the left is what happens when you are a dog of a vet student. We need to practice and our dogs get to be the “test dummies”. As you can see, he didn’t mind one bit.

Happy Tail for Elvis

We adopted Elvis this fall. As you can see, he has become quite comfortable in our home. He and our Boston Terrier have become good friends and his days are filled with hugs from the kids, walks with dad, and chewing on his Kong ball. Elvis is free spirit that loves to run and play outside. He has a certain amount of grace which is strange to see in a Basset Hound mix! He has been a gift to our family, plus he’s a great snuggler.

A special thank you to Ben and his wife for being such great foster parents!

Happy Tail for LuLu

I just wanted to let you know that LuLu is fabulous!!!!! Adding her to my family has definitely helped keep Bug young. They now have a morning routine of doggy wrestling and puppy 500 while I get ready for work. LuLu also is having a great time giong to Stay & Play Pet Resort a day or 2 each month if I need to go to Fargo for work. She has made many friends there and entertains everyone.

I am thankful every day that you found her and I was able to bring her into my family.

Thanks, Michele

Happy Tail for Peanut

We adopted Peanut just over a year ago. She is a great dog. We love her dearly. She gets along wonderfully with all the rest of our animals. We could not imagine life without her. Everyone that meets her loves her. She is friendly to everyone. She is the happiest dog I have ever been around. Her favorite pastimes are walking and hunting grasshoppers which we had an over abundance of last summer.

The one picture is her with the kitten we adopted this fall. They love to play with each other and snuggle when they have worn each other out. The other picture is of her relaxing on vacation this summer. She is getting better about riding in vehicles. She and our other dog love to play together. I thought we were crazy to drive to North Dakota from Powell, Wyoming to pick up a dog in the middle of the winter but I would not change a thing now. We are so thankful that we adopted her. Thanks to 4luvofdog for working with Peanut’s previous owner to rehome her.

Happy Tail for Brisa (Angel)

Hi there!  We adopted a lovely pit mix named Angel in February of 2010.  I just thought I’d share some pictures of our adventures since then.

We changed Angel’s name to Brisa, which means little breeze in Spanish, comes from her little gas problem.  Brisa really likes car rides and accompanied us on one all the way to Oregon – we moved here last June.  Since then we’ve had a whirl wind of fun adventures.  We went to Cannon Beach and played in the ocean.  We also went to Newport and played at the beach again, but this time Brisa had a chance to meet some local wildlife.  Recently we went to Sahelie and Koosah falls in the foothills of the Willamette National Forest.  Brisa LOVES water and always finds a rock to dig out and play with.  When we’re not at the beach or hiking or playing in the river, she mostly likes to hang out on the couch with her stuffed toys.

Just wanted to give you an update on our wonderful experience with Brisa to date.  We’re so grateful for the wonderful work you all do.

Anna, Eric & Brisa

Happy Tail for Cooper

My name is Cooper. I want to thank 4 Luv of Dog Rescue for finding me my forever home in October, 2010. I was one of the 200 dogs rescued from the puppy mill in Scranton, ND and lucky enough to end up in Fargo. When I first moved in, I was super skinny, weighing only 5 pounds, but since then I’ve put on 10 more pounds!

My forever family is fabulous. They wanted to find out as much as they could about me so they had a genetic test done and found out that I am actually 1/2 Standard Poodle, 1/4 Labrador Retriever, and 1/4 St. Bernard…..hey…wouldn’t that make me a St. Labradoodle????? I guess they should have named me Clifford the Big Red Dog!

My people family is made up of my Mom and Dad and 2 cool kids that love on me and play…play…play! Here’s the best part…I also have 2 big furry brothers named Murphy and Gus. They are awesome!!! My job is to act as their personal trainer as winter has added on a few extra pounds. They need to get back in shape because once the snow melts they will need to be able to keep up with me.

I love my new home and life is good……REALLY good!!!
Thank you again for rescuing me and giving me a life full of hugs and much love.

~ Cooper, Mark, Michelle, Cole, Abby, Murphy & Gus

Happy Tail for Daisy

It has been almost 5 years since Daisy (Noel) became a part of our family. She is such a sweetheart. Everyone who knows us will laugh when we say our house is protected by a pitt bull. Daisy knows many tricks now, like sit pretty (beg), shake, wave bye-bye, and bang (play dead). About a year ago, Daisy got a younger brother, Mitch (a terrier mix), who likes to torment her and she takes it well!! Today, we couldn’t imagine our lives without Daisy. Thank you so much 4 Luv of Dog and Kish!!!

Happy Tail for Rocky (Diesel/Cass)

Hey it’s me Rocky (formally known as Diesel and Cass). I have been with my furever home now for about 2 months and I am loving it here! I have become great friends with my human brother Sammy and my dog brother Bear. I love running and playing with them. I especially like it when I give Sam kisses and he giggles. Bear and I love to play tug of war and share treats. I enjoy running around my big yard, going for walks and snuggling with my humans. I also have 1 cat brother and 2 cat sisters who I don’t play with much but enjoy watching.

I want to thank everyone at 4 Luv of Dog for rescuing me and saving my life. I especially want to thank my great foster parents Susie and Mike who took good care of me while I was looking for my furever home. Also please give my foster sister Daisy a big hug and kiss from me and tell her that I miss her. I love it here and am so glad I found my furever home. Love, Rocky
