Happy Tail Stories!

Below are “Happy Tail” stories about dogs adopted from the 4 Luv of Dog Rescue who have found their forever home. If you adopted a dog from us and would like to share your “Happy Tail” story with us, please email pics and a brief write-up to happytail@4luvofdog.org.

Happy Tail for Duke!

We recently adopted Duke, our miniature  poodle from 4 luv of dog rescue and he is a wonderful pet.  We’re so lucky to have him.  He is a senior dog,  has been very well trained and has a friendly disposition.  He loves to go for walks and snuffle out the scents of our yard and woods in the country.  We found a squeaky bone which he loves to run and fetch.  He loves attention and snuggles, is friendly with our grandchildren and friends—an excellent family pet for a retired couple.  We’re so glad that we adopted Duke.  He seems happy here and we are so happy to have him!

Happy Tail for Jax!

We adopted Jax (previously Chewy) a year ago now, but it feels like he has been our dog forever. He had a rough start in life, but he is living the easy life now!

He makes us laugh every single day. The stubborn personality that he has and the looks he gives people really make you think he understands exactly what you are saying. He can be a little scary to new people that come to the house but it doesn’t take long to figure out he is just a big, loveable goofball.

There isn’t a week that goes by that we don’t get stopped on walks to ask what kind of dog is he and how unique looking he is. I might be a little biased but I swear he is the cutest dog I’ve ever seen with his big head & floppy ears. He truly is a one-of-a-kind and we know he was meant to be with us. Thank you to everyone at 4LuvofDog for taking him in & giving him the best care possible, we are grateful!

Happy Tail for Pixie!

Pixie is a Shi Tuz/Maltese who we fostered at just 9 weeks old.  We had been wanting to add another member to our family and get a companion for our other dog Piper. When we heard of the incident in Wheatland we decided that was a great reason to get another dog! We saw the puppies on tv and knew we had to get one. We fell in love with Pixie instantly and she seemed to have a liking for Piper the minute they met. She is the best cuddler. She also lets children carry her for hours. I can’t imagine life with out Pixie.  She is the perfect fit for our family and we love her to pieces!

Happy Tail for Cass!

M73 was his name when I met him and I can’t honestly tell you where he was when I met him other than somewhere in the Casselton Vet Clinic. He was one of 174 dogs rescued the day prior from a horrible puppy mill and I was seeing all of them for the first time. I do know a couple days later when I began helping to care for the dogs (as a 4 Luv of Dog volunteer) he had the double unit on the bottom of a 3-plex. He was horribly matted with feces, urine and filth which didn’t discourage me from picking him up and giving him love as I transported him to a pen so his kennel could be cleaned. It didn’t take many days before his kennel remained clean between shifts and instead of cowering in the corner he was clamoring to be picked up and cuddled. I had never worked with small dogs, endearingly called fluffies, but loving dogs is never hard for me so I began to fall for M73.

I didn’t want to adopt a fluffy so during my shifts I tried to focus all my attention on the other fluffies so I could pull my heart back. You see I’d always wanted a white pit bull but had recently fallen for a black lab (Hilo) so I was more determined now to hold out for a pittie. But it’s true sometimes you pick a dog which I’d done with my first dog Memphis who I had for 17 years and sometimes they pick you … I renamed M73 Cass for all the Cass agencies (including the one I work for-Cass County State’s Attorney Office) who took part in him being rescued. Originally I was going to name him Gregsmith in honor of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office deputy who got the rescue started.

Cass makes me smile every day with his happy go lucky nature. It brought me great joy to bring Cass home and see him running through the grass, laying on a lounge chair, doing a back rub on my bed, chasing Hilo around the yard … just being a dog who’s safe, clean and loved. I’ve seen all the videos and photos of where he came from so at times I get caught up in thinking of how he must of felt living in a tiny kennel; laying on numerous inches of his own excrement; going without food and water; freezing at times and smoldering at other times; not having access to fresh air and exercise and I am so thankful we’re filling him up with love … even as type this Mr. Cass is laying on my lap.

Happy Tail for Dex & Ben!

I adopted Dex (formerly Dixon) about 3 years ago and Ben (formerly Buckley) last year. When I adopted Dex I always knew I wanted another. I just never knew how perfectly it would work out. From the moment Ben walked through the door they were joined at the hip. I grew up around dogs but have never seen two more comfortable or more perfect for each other.

Happy Tail for Kody!

We adopted Kody and he has been with us for over a month now. We are so happy and thankful that he has joined our family. He is always happy and sweet and greets us with his little smile when we come home from work and school. After just a few days of being shy and nervous, he now happily calls us his own as evidenced by his affection and protection. He lets us know when strangers visit, but listens and is okay as soon as he knows we are okay. Kody is happy to let us know when he needs to go out, and does not have accidents. He loves to run and fetch his toys for us. He enjoys going for walks with us but we sometimes need to carry him the last few blocks, when he gets tired. It is so fun to sit and watch TV or work on homework with a little friend next to you. Thank you again for allowing us to adopt Kody and make him a part of our family! The work you do is so important and valuable.

Happy Tail for Irie!

My wife and I adopted Irie (formerly Ivy) about 6 months ago, Kirsten and Andy Knaus and our daughter Haley.  She’s doing awesome and has adapted as well as could be expected. Her and Roodie, our bulldog, annoy the heck out each other, as well as our cats, Shanti and Puma. We are so glad you guys are able to help unfortunate animals, we appreciate all you do. Thank you so much for this opportunity.

Happy Tail for Jake!

Jake has been the perfect fit in our home. I had been looking for a companion for my border collie/lab cross, Alice, and Jake fit the bill.
He got really comfortable here very quickly, much more quickly than I expected. The first couple of days he was like glue on me. I could barely turn around without running into him! But within days we hit a turning point. He finally realized that since Alice is allowed on the sofa, so is he. Now, in the evening, I have my little corner of the sofa and the two of them often take up the rest. A little more than a week after he joined us, it’s now not unusual to find Jake on the sofa by himself during the day resting his head on the pillow and lying on his back with his legs in the air. It’s pretty easy to see he’s comfortable here! Alice is usually found within a foot or two of her “big brother.” And though Jake is a senior, Alice gets him moving, too, by squeaking toys or showing him how we play hide and seek with treats.
Jake has definitely an indispensable part of our family.

Happy Tail for Zeus!

We adopted Zeus over a year ago, but I’m just now getting around to his Happy Tail, and a very happy tale it’s been!

Zeus has become an irreplaceable part of our little family. He greets everyone with hugs and kisses, from relatives to the cable man. People always comment on his good looks, and how can you not?! From the first moment I first saw him, I’ve thought he was the most gorgeous dog ever.

Zeus has had a few accidents, but nothing major. His biggest downfall is his appetite for toilet paper! We have to keep the bathroom door tightly closed, or he’ll eat an entire roll. No joke.

Without Zeus, our lives would be so different. He loves unconditionally, giving hugs when we’re sad and kisses when we’re mad. Anyone who says pitties are mean hasn’t met Zeus, our little lover. Thank you, 4 Luv of Dog, for taking Zeus in and allowing us to adopt him. We love our Zeusiepoo!

Happy Tail for De’ja!

We are the lucky parents of adopting a 4 Luv of  Dog from the Wheatland rescue group. She is a little Shih Tzu, we named De’ja Blu Wickie (previously Freedom). She is around 8-10 months old. We love her to death. She is  a perfect fit for us. She is very affectionate & comical. Our two previous dogs were Daddy’s girls, this one is definately a Mama’s girl. So I am loving that.
This is our first time adopting & has been a wonderful expierence. We think our dog is doing so well because she had a wonderful Foster Mom who taught her trust & they had their own Shih Tzu that De’ja learned from. So she is doing excellent. She is a little leery of men, but will give them a chance, if they don’t grab at her.
She likes meeting other dogs & loves watching children. We live by an Elementary school, so she is throughly entertained watching them from her front row seat atop the couch  or loveseat as she gazes out the windows.  She is very quite & hardly ever barks. She sleeps from 10:00 PM-7:00AM. She has definitely found her forever home, we would not take a million dollars for her. Please consider giving adoption at 4 Luv of Dog a try, we are so HAPPY we did. We would like to “THANK” 4 Luv of Dog for all the TLC & hard work they do.

Happy Tail for Gizmo & Mya!

We contacted 4 Luv of Dog with a specific request. We were looking for a small dog, adult, quiet, non-dominant and social. Our 14 yr old shih tzu, who lost her partner in January, is quiet and reserved, her new companion would need to be too. We were quickly put in touch with Gizmo’s foster mom and told she had the perfect dog. We met Gizmo (formerly Bingo) and knew immediately that he was going to fit in perfectly with our family. In fact he was such a great addition that we decided to look at getting another dog a few weeks later. A dog closer to Gizmo’s age that will want to play with him. Although Lily enjoys the company, she is not interested in fraternizing with her subjects. That’s how we came to meet Mya. She is the missing link in our dog kingdom. We can’t thank 4 Luv of Dogs enough, especially Amy and Kim. Being able to request specific characteristics in a dog, and know the foster family has seen the dogs in a home environment instead of a kennel so they can match you with the perfect fit, that’s an amazing service to both the rescued dog and new family. As with most rescues, Gizmo and Mya did not come from great beginnings. However, they have quickly become accustomed to the pampered life all dogs should enjoy. A rescue will spend the rest of his life appreciating all he is given just a little more and thank you for his second chance at a great life every day.

Happy Tail for Agnes!

We adopted Agnes (the boxer) in January of 2013.  She was immediately welcomed into our home by our older dog, Cubby.  Agnes seemed a bit frightened when we first brought her home, but perked up when she saw that her new home came with a big brother dog!  They are best-buds.  She was underweight when we got her, but has filled out nicely, and adjusted to her new home quickly.  Agnes enjoys being outside, playing with Cubby, and snuggling into her favorite blanket.  Thank you for allowing us to adopt such a beautiful and loving dog!  My husband and I adore her!!

Happy Tail for Ace!

I have volunteered with the rescue for over a year, and I have been fostering for close to that. I own a Great Dane and my first foster was a Pitbull. I have never really considered myself a little dog person. When I was contacted about a Chihuahua that needed out of the pound ASAP, I agreed to foster him thinking he would adopted quickly. Little did I know, he would never leave my house. Ace was so scared when I picked him up that it took me ten minutes to get him into my car. He instantly bonded with my Dane and they became best friends! They are the oddest couple, but the perfect match.

About a week later, I was in a panic thinking that if someone wanted to adopt him, I couldn’t let him go. I happened to make a Facebook post about how much I would miss him, and a lot of friends actually donated money to cover his adoption fee! I knew he belonged with us! My fiancé couldn’t say no. The rest is history!

Ace is the perfect addition, and even though I still don’t consider myself a small dog person, he is my exception to the rule. We are still able to take dogs into our home and having Ace around keeps the new dogs in line! He really has no idea how little (12 pounds) he is. I thank this rescue every day for what they do for homeless dogs, but I will forever be grateful for them bringing Ace into our lives!

Happy Tail for Jules!

Happy Tail for Oscar!

Oscar has been a great addition to the family and is already the king of the house. He loves his sister (our 1yr old pug Chloe) and plays and cuddles with her a lot. It’s safe to say he’s spoiled and he gets plenty of treats as well. He is such a sweet boy and we can’t believe how well and quickly he adjusted to our home. He hasn’t had ANY accidents in the house and shares everything with Chloe just fine. His only flaw is that he is a bed hog haha(he sleeps with me at night).  We are so glad we found him and can’t thank the rescue enough for such an awesome boy. :)

Happy Tail for Lacey & Henry!

Lacey and Henry wanted to send you a note to let you know they are living the good life in the Big Sky Country and they want to thank you for making it all possible.  They have a home with a springer spaniel and miniature dachshund plus a senegal parrot, and chinchilla and they have become a part of their new family.  They like the warmer days and enjoy time on the deck in the sun when their family is enjoying the great outdoors with them. Henry and Lacey were very quick to adapt to their new home and they seem to be very happy with all of their new friends they have made.  Henry always gets a huge hug after he has been outside to do his duty and he really waits for that.  Lacey can find a lap to lay in almost any time and their favorite time is lying on the couch in the evening on their fleece blanket with one of their new family members.  They are very special little dogs and we are so thankful they remained together, they are very close.  We appreciate the opportunity to have Henry and Lacey in our home and hope they have many, many days to enjoy their happy life here.

Happy Tail for Vader!

Vader (formerly known as Jenner) has been with us for just about four months now.  We feel very lucky to have him as part of our family. When we met Vader, he really did not know any basic commands, but he has come a long way.  He is even being trained for hunting and is coming right along.  Our beagle, Murphy, and Vader have become best buddies and have so much fun together.

The whole adoption process through 4 Luv of Dog was great!  Vader’s foster mom was awesome and helped us out a lot and even came to our home to assist us in transitioning Vader into our family and giving him the home he deserves.  A big thank you to 4 Luv of Dog for bringing Vader into our family!

Happy Tail for Steve!

We have had Steve since February and he has very quickly become center of our family.  I can’t imagine how anyone didn’t adopt him sooner.  I am guessing it was fate that brought him to us.  He has been quite a large help to me right away as I was suffering from medical issues at the time we adopted, and he was wonderful when I would have a hard time getting up from the floor, he was strong enough to help me up by being my crutch and always was willing to give a lick when I was down.

He was a bit playful for what we were used to, when he got here, and the rat and the cat didn’t exactly enjoy that, but our roommates’ dog was excited to have a new friend!  Now we are living in harmony (most of the time) and loves most he comes in contact with.  I have even caught him and the cat playing together!

Grandma and Grandpa have even taken quite a liking to him and vice versa.  His love for them started when he came in at Easter and Grandma started feeding him right away, so he may be biased.  He had to travel 3 hours to see them and he travels wonderfully so this was most likely a wonderful welcome for him.

We have also found he is wonderful at waking us up before our alarm and though that habit is still not 100% lovable at 5:30am, we will never sleep in and it is great to wake up to his smile.  He also comforts us to bed with his snoring every night.  I can’t help but smile as I close my eyes to go to sleep.  He is quite vocal about most things and we have added his middle name of Chewbacca due to the noise he makes and the fact he responded well to it.  We had to keep his name as Steve because he just looks like a Steve to us!

He can catch anything thrown in the air (food and toys) and always knows when it is time for T-R-E-A-T-S (yes, we do have to spell it out or he will know….)!  My favorite is when we say “car ride” and he starts to run in place with his big smile and his tail wagging.  He loves going anywhere and any drive through window is sure to comment on how handsome he is (sometimes he even talks back).  He went on his first trip to the pet store (where he was recognized by someone) and did wonderfully so I couldn’t ask for more!  It was definitely a special mom and son day!

I couldn’t imagine a better dog.  He isn’t perfect, but he keeps us on our feet and keeps us laughing too, so for our family, he is perfect!

I have to thank everyone at 4 Luv of Dog for the wonderful dog he turned out to be and the wonderful care he received!

Happy Tail for Molly!

We started fostering Molly (aka Olivia) in April, 2011, when she was 10 years old.  She came to the rescue with a mouth full of horrible teeth.  After having nearly half of her teeth removed, she felt so much better!   Sad to say but not many people want to adopt a senior dog.  That is SO sad because seniors have so much to offer.  After a year of fostering, there were no adopters interested in her.  Our family discussed it and we all agreed that even if someone was interested in her we would not be able to give up this gentle soul.   On April 4, 2012, she became a permanent member of our family!
Don’t forget seniors!  They have a lot of love yet to give!  Molly has proven that and she has been a very much loved part of our family for over 2 years.

Happy Tail for Izzi!

We’ve had Izzi (formerly Taz) for about 3 months now and really love having her! She is so little, cute and full of energy! She was a shy at first but she now enjoys her big brother Otto’s company! They love to play, go for walks, give kisses, snuggle and bark at things together! Thank you 4Luv of Dog for finding Izzi for us!
