04 May Happy Tail for Tripp
“In 2022, I lost my dog, Rufus. He was a pure white, long haired chihuahua, who entered my life unexpectedly when things were tough. I called him my soul mate. He was my best buddy who got me through some really rough times. He passed away when my oldest turned 6 months old. I choose to believe he knew that I was safe and ready for the next chapter of my life. Whenever I was asked when I would get another dog, I would say I’m not going to go out to get any dog. Like Rufus, My dog will find me.
Flash forward to 2026.
A transitional pivot in my life; a newly single mom with two very young boys, ages 4 (Huckleberry) and 1 (Buster). I happen to be friends with Tripp’s foster mom, Heidi. When the boys and I came over to Heidi’s house, we had the pleasure of meeting Tripp. The moment I saw him, I instantly thought “who’s this good boy?!”. But what caught my attention the most, is his instant connection with my boys. I think my sons knew it before I did, considering my 4 year old instantly called him, “my dog, Tripp.”
Tripp is now an official part of our family. He makes my 1 year old laugh those deep belly laughs and follows both the boys every wherever they go. He sleeps in our bed every night; His first night sleeping with his new family, Buster was having a hard night with teething. Whenever he would wake up crying, Tripp would scurry from under the covers, and cuddle right next to him, calming Buster back to sleep. The way he snores makes all three of us giggle.
Tripp is enjoying all the attention, all the kisses and of course figured out the perks of being a dog of some
Toddlers. We are working on not stealing snacks or begging for food, with Huckleberry often stating “No Tripp! Snacks are for kids! Not dogs!”. Tripp’s zoomies make Buster laugh until he has tears in his eyes, and has already proven himself as a caretaker dog. When one of the boys isn’t feeling the greatest, Tripp is right by their side. Even when I’m having a hard day, he cuddles in and kisses me instantly, reassuring me everything will be alright.
I’m a firm believer that a dog enters your life when you need them the most and that they choose you. I think we were meant to meet Tripp. I want to believe that Rufus sent him to us; his way of telling me everything will be okay and we have a new protector to guide us in our new journey. So thank you Rufus.
Thank you Heidi for loving us and introducing us to Tripp. And Thank you to 4luvofdogs for rescuing Tripp and taking care of him until he found his way to his forever family.
We love you, Tripp.”
