Foster Home Feedback
* NO Cats, Older considerate children only
3/31/2020: We have been fostering Spud for 4 months now and we LOVE him. He is potty trained and is learning quickly! He hated his kennel when we first got him and now most often he is very quiet in his kennel and he has been sleeping in it. Important to note that the first couple months, he got along really well with our two resident dogs however the past month or two he has been developing a more aggressive playfulness which has led to some altercations with our other dogs. We have been keeping them separated due to this but we are working on his response as we think that this is him resource guarding of people. So we have been working with him on this and he has made improvements. When Spud is not around our other dogs he is very well-behaved. He listens well, he LOVES to snuggle with people and burrow under a blanket and he is a quick learner. Spud, at this time, may benefit from being the only pet in the home with older considerate children or would need to be alternated with other pets being separated. We are continuing to work on this issue with Spud and hopeful that it will resolve with further training since he has gotten along with dogs in the past. Spud is SO worth the effort and time. He is such a wonderful dog with the best ears and sock-puppet mouth
1/7/2020: If you love to snuggle, then Spud is your pup! He loves to snuggle up next to you and take naps. He is like having a little personal space heater. Spud is potty trained and he gets along well with our other two resident dogs. He loves to wrestle and play with them, then he tires out and takes a nap. He does have some anxiety being in a crate, however, he has improved a lot with this. We have been keeping him in a smaller plastic surround kennel instead of the wire crate because it has allowed his happy tail wound to heal and seems to work better for him. He knows simple commands like 'sit', 'stay', and 'come'. Spud does get excited when he meets new people and likes to give them a hug when he sees them. He is working on not jumping on people and is improving! Spud is such a sweetie and we think he looks a lot like Petey from Little Rascals mixed with the Target dog. Once you see his ears, your heart will melt!
This guy would be a perfect addition to any home
11/30/19: Boy is Spud a joy! You should really take the chance to meet this guy. At first, he seems a bit anxious in the kennel room but you get him out of the high-stress environment and he is a joy. First of all, his ears are enough to keep you smiling. Spud LOVES to cuddle, and chill and be by you. At night he snuggles in close and is so relaxed and wants to sleep it always breaks my heart to put him back. Take the time to meet this guy and you’ll have a forever loyal friend for life.
10/17/19: Ladies are you looking for a way to stay warm during this cold winter?? If so, look no further. I, Spud ‘the Stud', will keep you toasty warm with my warm, milky, white fur and chocolate brown eyes. I love nothing more than to snuggle with my humans.
I really am a master snuggle-bear! I’m loving and affectionate and will curl up on your lap and plant kisses all over your face. Women fall head over heels for me and men want to be like me. Really! My hobbies other than cuddling include wrestling and long jump off the deck into the yard. I also love to race around and be free and can jump like an Olympic athlete (that’s why I need at least a 6-foot fence in my new backyard).
Right now, I am in training to learn how to sit and stay, with an enticing treat as a motivator. The treat is great to get me to sit, occasionally, but there is just too much to do and see to sit there for too long such as…..rabbit, squirrel, bird. I enjoy toys, treats, and mealtime so much, I think the food and all of the toys are mine and I like to make my foster brother share theirs with me. If they don’t share, I will take their toys and treats from them, and keep for myself.
I do not like the wet stuff they call rain and snow, I prefer to stay indoors when that is falling from the sky. It’s too cold and wet to go out to do my business when this is happening. My foster mom says I have to go out and do my business, even when it’s raining or snowing. My foster fur brothers are showing me that it is ok to go out and do your business, but I’m still a little hesitant about their motives. I’m learning and getting better at going out, I just need a little more time and guidance from my foster fur brothers. I have tons of potential and will do great with some more training, I’m ready and willing to start ASAP.
I don’t do well behind bars (kennel), I get a little scared and feel trapped, so my foster mom and dad have not been putting me in a kennel. At night, I sleep on the bed with my foster mom and foster fur brothers and during the day with my foster dad and fur brothers. When they are gone doing errands, I get a treat to keep me busy for a little while, and then my fur brothers and I play so hard! Then it's time to take a nap until foster mom and dad get home. I do not chew on the furniture (like my foster fur brothers do) so my foster mom and dad trust me enough not to kennel me. I have a lot of energy and love meeting new people, so it would be best if my new home had adults and older children only. Sometimes, I forget that I am big and can’t keep my energy to myself, I wouldn’t want to accidentally hurt anyone small.
I would love my new home to have a large fenced yard and a fur brother or sister to play with and help burn my energy (an older human brother or sister would be a plus as well). I would not do well living in an apartment since I have so much energy and I need to have some space to run around. I’m not a picky eater, I will eat anything and everything whether it is on the floor or the counter; all food is fair game if it isn’t inside the cupboard or the fridge. I always clean my puzzle plate.
So, if you are looking to add another handsome dog to your family (I’m that dog!) then give a shout out to 4 Luv of Dog to set up a blind date to meet. Just so you know, I will do treats on the first date. I can’t wait to meet you!! #meetspudthestud
9/28/19 Volunteer Feedback: Spud has been in the rescue a few weeks; he was pulled from a regional pound and unfortunately, we have not been able to get him into a foster yet. I can't understand why; he is such a great dog! He is a nice size-on the small side of medium. And look at those ears!
He has a super fun personality and loves his people. Spud loves to have his butt scratched and will give you all the kisses you want. I've introduced him to quite a few dogs and he does so well. He is extremely dog-friendly and loves to play. Spud would love to have a dog buddy to run around with! He walks very nicely on a leash; no pulling and stays right by your side. He is very treat-motivated. Spud doesn't seem to know basic commands, but is picking up things very quickly and would be fun to take to an obedience class!
Please consider meeting Spud...you won't regret it!
9/25/19 Volunteer Feedback: Spud is one of those dogs who will steal your heart instantly. What an absolute sweetheart he is! He is such a beautiful dog – his adorable ears stick straight up and his coat is so soft. Multiple people have said he reminds them of "Petey" from The Little Rascals! Spud loves to be petted and has a whole lot of love to give. While spending time with him at the shelter, he wanted to be near me every chance he could get! The second I sat down, he hopped up right next to me and laid down to cuddle. While I was walking around cleaning, he followed everywhere with a big grin on his face. Spud would love to spend forever with you. Whichever home decides to be his forever home will be very, very lucky!
9/24/19 Volunteer Feedback: Spud is such a fun-loving boy, and just look at that handsome face and those adorable ears! I have been lucky enough to have a few shifts at the building with Spud and have loved getting to know this guy. He definitely likes to live in the moment and isn't afraid to have some fun. We were fortunate to have some sunshine today and Spud took full advantage of it and rolled around in the grass. He will definitely keep his forever home giggling at his fun personality. Spud does get a little excited, and he can jump so high, he could be on the next Olympic pole vault team. While he is a talented jumper, Spud is easily redirected into a sit when asked and is able to keep his feet on the floor after a quick reminder. Spud does great on walks and does well on a leash with a harness. He is also very treat-motivated. Please consider making Spud the next member of your family.
