5/21/20: Miki is a sweet girl! She is still a bit skittish when someone moves suddenly, but she is becoming more and more comfortable every day. She loves to be outside and if she is not laying in the grass, she is patrolling the yard. I have even caught her chasing her tail a few times (don’t tell her though as I don’t think she wants anyone to know; as soon as she hears me open the door she stops). Several times a day she will look up at me with those puppy dog eyes and ask for a few scratches and rubs. And she is rarely denied...
I do have a doggy door, but even when it is closed, she lets me know when she needs to go out. She is a bit mischievous and so far has only pulled blankets and pillows off the furniture, sometimes even into other rooms. I have kenneled her when I leave and Miki kennels great overnight as well. Even though she cries for a few minutes at first, she settles quickly and sleeps all night. Sometimes she will even go into the kennel on her own (although not as often as she getting more comfortable). She has scratched on closed doors, screens, and mirrors (who wouldn’t when that snooty dog won’t play with you?!?), but we are working on that.
Miki is also learning to walk on a loose leash and she does quite well with it. A leash and collar are not her thing but the harness is working splendidly.
I have only introduced her to a couple of other dogs and she has done really well with them when they are polite; Miki let one larger dog know she wasn’t happy and when she backed off a bit, Miki continued playing.
I have also introduced her to one child (2.5 years old) and they hit it off quite well (the child is familiar with small animals and knows to be gentle with them, plus they were supervised.)
I am not sure how she would do with cats. So far she has only been near one (in a carrier) and she didn’t seem too interested in him.
