10/7/2020: Collin is doing great in his foster home. He is learning that his kennel means a sunbutter kong and a handful of treats! He is slowly learning "sit," "gentle," and "leave it." Collin is still very energetic and will need someone who can provide a lot of both mental and physical activity/exercise. Collin is still a young dude and has a lot of energy that he doesn't know how to express. We're trying to learn how to greet guests at the door, as right now, he is very jumpy and mouthy.
Collin is a very sweet boy who just wants someone to play with. He is dog friendly and loves people (no stranger danger with this guy). He walks great on an EZ Walk harness, with minimal pulling when he sees local wildlife. Collin's prey drive is very strong and he loves to chase. So we are also working with impulse control. Collin is going to need someone who is willing to work with him. I think Collin is going to be a really great companion for someone who realizes and can work with his potential!
9/15/2020: Colin! Colin is a rambunctious and playful guy! He is lacking in some basic manners, but we are working on it. He is a very typical young Lab (mix) with lots of energy, and the propensity to find anything as a toy. He does well with redirecting. Colin is pretty quiet inside, but does bark a lot outside, especially at urban wildlife. We have some neighbor squirrels who love to tease the dogs and drive them bonkers. He seems to love everyone and other dogs. On walks, Colin does fairly well, but is showing some reactivity to cars. Again, he redirects very easily and feeds off positive praise.
I have been crating Colin while I am out, and he does not like it. I have been working on this as well with him. He has escaped from a wire kennel, and will require a more closed kennel to contain him. At night, he sleeps so soundly on my bed with me and my resident dogs. He looooooves to snuggle and will snore in your ear all night. I don't think he slept on a soft bed until he came into rescue.
I would not recommend a house with young children, as Colin is still very full of energy and is in his jumpy and mouthy phase of young dog age. He would do well with someone who can devote time into training him and give him some good exercise to burn off his energy.
Colin is a very sweet boy who is learning that home life is a great life. Please consider this happy boy for your companion!
9/7/2020: Colin has awesome leash manners; no pulling and just a great walker. Colin is treat-motivated and also likes to give hugs!
