Foster Home Feedback
9/29/2020: Ronald has had a great few weeks! He really seems to be getting comfortable now that he has a few weeks under his belt, and he’s settled down quite a bit. We’ve been working on Ronald's apprehension of strangers reaching for him or coming into the apartment, and he’s had great meetings with the last 5-10 people! He does bark from a distance at other dogs because he wants to see them and play, but I’m hoping that settles as well with more socialization. I brought Ronald home to meet my family dog and parents, and he did so well. Loved everyone! (See the pictures.) We still have some things to work on, but he’s making great progress, and Ronald is sweet as can be!
9/15/2020: Ronald has only been with me a little over a week, but we’re already great friends. He is house-trained and crate-trained! He spends ~4-5 hours at a time in the crate during my workday, and he does great. Ronald goes in on his own, and he seems content with all his toys and treats inside. We have come across a lot of people and animals on our walks, and he is friendly with both people and dogs. He is a little timid and defensive when people come into my apartment. He has nipped at visitors a couple times so I suggest introducing new people outside before going inside, if possible, since he seems to have no issues being approached outside of the unit. Ronald has been introduced to one cat in a controlled environment, and he did well. He was definitely interested, but didn’t go after her or anything. Older considerate children only for Roland.
He is very charming and hilarious. He’s always making me laugh, and he’s very sweet. Ronald has a lot of energy so he loves going on walks and runs for as long as possible. We’ve also been working on some mentally stimulating, canine enrichment activities, and I’ve seen great improvements in wearing down his energy levels. He eats his meals out of his Kong so he has an extra challenge, and I make sure to do other little challenges and tricks throughout the day to get him thinking. Ronald’s very smart and loves to do a good job with his commands. He knows “sit”, “shake”, “lay down”, and “stay”. He also understands “no”, but we’re still working on getting him to understand that he can’t be selective about when he wants to listen to it.
All in all, Ronald is such a great dog, and he deserves a loving home. I think he’s been through a lot, and he will really thrive in a stable environment with someone to give him lots of love. A yard would be perfect for him, and I even think having another dog around would be a huge bonus for entertainment and activity!
Other Ronald fun facts:
• He LOVES toys (the squeakier the better, but he doesn’t discriminate)
• He is the least picky eater ever, and he’s always ready for mealtime (or treat time)
• He is great at sleeping through the night as long as his human is close by
• He loves being called a “good boy”
• Doggy Cookies are his favorite treat
