Foster Home Feedback

5/16/2022 Foster Feedback: Happy Harry is finally available to adopt! He arrived at my home over a year ago from South Carolina. He was saved from a kill shelter, malnourished, and suffering from an advanced case of heartworm (and a lot of other medical issues). It was touch and go whether he was going to survive for a while. He has overcome so much and is so ready for his forever home!

Harry has never had an accident, never chewed anything other than his own things, is friendly to strangers, rarely barks, doesn’t need to be kenneled, rides nicely in the car, loves to go for long walks and in general, just wants to be with you. (We are retired, so he isn’t left for long periods of time.) He doesn’t beg, sleeps in his own bed, and has been a good big brother to several other foster dogs. He only goes on the one couch with his blanket and doesn’t counter surf. He truly is almost PERFECT!

Although he is great with other dogs, Harry doesn’t want to share toys and high-value items, so we are careful to only give access to those items when the dogs are apart. The heartworm treatment left him with pulmonary hypertension so he doesn’t have the stamina for strenuous playing with other dogs, but brisk long walks are just fine and we do a lot of them regardless of the weather. When other fosters are adopted and move out, he really enjoys being an only dog again…having bones and balls to chew on whenever he wants. For that reason, I think he would love to be an only pet…or a companion to another dog who is content to just hang around with him, not bugging him to play.

Stay tuned for Harry's adventures! Tomorrow we are going to be at the FurGo run and later this week we’re moving to the lake for the summer.

**   Harry previously tested positive and completed treatment for heartworm disease. Because of the severity of his chronic heartworm disease and the damage it caused to his heart and lungs he requires daily medication for pulmonary hypertension. The cost is about $50 per month depending on the pharmacy.  To learn more about Heartworm in dogs, read here:  http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2096&aid=743

He may also need medication to help him adjust to a new home. The cost is $24 a month.
