Janko is super friendly!
Foster Home Feedback
10/14/21: What a great dog someone is going to adopt! Janko is super smart, picking up the routine of our home quickly, very playful, and has a gentle mouth with other dogs. He was cat tested and did well with a dog-savvy feline. Janko exhibits little interest in the annoying neighborhood squirrels, is totally house trained, walks loose leash very nicely with a front clip harness, and is affectionate without having to be on you…honestly, he has very few things he has yet to master!
If Janko gets overly excited, he occasionally tries to mouth, but with consistent positive reinforcement instruction, it is already better in only 3 days. Janko is only 10 months old and has lots of energy to play and we go on a couple of long walks a day. He would be a great running buddy and his adoptive family will need to be an active one. Janko is pretty good at fetch and I am sure he would excel at agility or rally. Obedience training would also reinforce the good manners he has.
At 37 pounds, Janko is a great medium size and has such a relaxed gentle way about him. I have been kenneling him at night and he is quiet. He hasn’t chewed on anything inappropriate here either. I just love this little guy and you will too!
10/2/2021: I've noticed that Janko does bark if he is in the kennel when you're home. However, when we leave, he stays completely silent. I'll keep an eye on the furbo but I'm almost certain from what I've watched the past few days, that he just sleeps in his kennel when we leave! He's also an excellent flycatcher!
8/30/21: Poor Janko can't figure out why his forever home hasn't been able to find him yet, and I've told him that I don't know why either. He asked me, "Did you tell them I'm potty trained?" I told him I'd let everyone know. "Did you tell them I would just love another buddy to play with or someone to just throw my rope toy?" Janko asked. I told him that I'd tell you. "Did you tell them I also love a good snuggle?" he asked. I told him I already have told you. He asked if I mentioned that he was good with all the dogs he met and that Janko loves to share his toys and treats, and I told him I would pass all that information along to you. Janko is still holding out hope that someone out there is looking for a good dog, and that he's the boy for them.
6/29/21: Janko has been with us now for over a week, and what a sweet, sweet boy he is. He absolutely loves everybody that he meets. He did absolutely wonderful meeting my two personal dogs (a Chihuahua and a Min-Pin). He's very eager to please and loves nothing more than snuggling up to you and watching a good movie. Janko, being the younger pup that he is, does have a bit of mischief in him still. His mischievous side definitely comes out when left alone and should definitely be crated when you leave. While we are working on kennel training, he is quite vocal about being left alone in a kennel and will let you know how he feels about being there. As a result, I would not recommend that he go to an apartment-setting home unless you have soundproof walls as I could see neighbors not being happy about listening to Janko sing his "feel sorry for me" song.
While he does love all the dogs he's met, he is still a big puppy and sometimes does not know his size. My two littles did not appreciate Janko's playing and put him in his place a couple of times. While he does well with this, he will still try and see if they have their crabby pants off and initiate some play with them, which always ends with them telling him an absolute no. His puppy play also extends to my 2-year-old grandson who has been knocked over a time or two during Janko's more rambunctious moments. When Janko is snuggled up on the couch watching a good episode of Scooby-Doo, he's absolutely wonderful with my grandson. He's also king of the cleanup crew!
If you're looking for a wonderful dog and willing to work through some of his puppyish quirks, Janko is the boy for you. Also, while he does enjoy his Scooby-Doo, he won't argue with you at all about what kind of show/movie you choose to watch.
