* Helga needs a home with No other pets, No children, and must have a fenced-in yard
8/27/21: Helga is a very calm lady, just looking for a place on the couch next to her people. She is a sweet, non-aggressive, and fairly quiet girl ready for the good life. We've had Helga in our home since the last few weeks of July. She sleeps in a large wire kennel and spends her days either laying near me or on the couch when I work from home, or in the kennel when I work at the office. We also sometimes put her in our mobile fence that she could easily tip over, but she has never even tried to get out. She is not scared by loud noises and had no reaction to fireworks or the Blue Angels practicing above our house. Helga was initially curious about our cat but now ignores him. We have a flighted cockatiel in the home, and Helga will look in his direction if he is being noisy but otherwise ignores him. She gives only passing glances to the turkeys, deer, and fawns in our yard and, even if they are running, she makes no move toward them. She doesn't even chew on the feathers on the lawn! She is interested in the people and dogs walking by on the road but hasn't barked. Helga will whine if kenneled but rarely barks. We've discovered that when she's energetic, she likes to pounce and chew on a tennis ball. She will retrieve it a few times, too. She will also sit for treats.
She makes adorable grumbling sounds when being pet on the head and ears. Helga loves to take small walks and sniff around. We use a harness rather than a collar when she is outside because she can pull hard on a rare occasion (but is usually easily re-directed). She is very excited to meet new people, which is one of the times she pulls hard on the leash. She is very strong, and in her excitement could tip over a child, but she has shown absolutely no aggression to anyone or any animal. During her time with us, she has been spayed and had some dental work. She came through those with flying colors! She is so non-aggressive that they were able to remove her staples in her stomach without having to put her under or giving a local anesthetic. Helga is potty trained, although she had a couple of accidents when we first got her and also when her stomach acted up after some medication. She doesn't care for rain or showers and tries to move away from the water, so Helga needs encouragement to do her business when it's raining.
She is smart and learned our routines quickly. She will go on short walks but doesn't run much. She loves to be out on a tie-out in the sun for 15 to 20 minutes or so. Then she's ready to come in (but doesn't bark). She LOVES to go on drives, calmly claiming a seat and watching out the window. She will go lay down on command (on the couch) and kennels easily with a little encouragement. She doesn't sit on command, but I'm sure that could be taught. Typical of her breed, she likes to lick things (people, her legs, the couch, pillows) but she can usually be re-directed. She likes to hang out with us in the garages, too. We have always had her on a leash outside because our yard isn't fenced, but I imagine she would be great in a fenced yard. She's an absolutely wonderful companion.
