Foster Home Feedback

12/16/2021: It’s hard for me to believe that when I first started fostering AJ just over a month ago, he wasn’t considered to be potty trained. AJ has had no problems making it all day while I’m at work which is just over 8 hours. AJ is a fast learner and wants to do whatever it takes to please his people. He has been introduced to the resident chihuahua that lives in the basement and reads his cues well. The chi barks at him and lets him know who is boss. AJ leaves him be, but really wishes he could snuggle up next to the dog who is the size of his own head.

AJ has fit seamlessly into my household and routine. He sleeps until I get up, does his business, and then plays with my dog or rests. He crates all day when I’m gone and then we play or go for a walk. This guy is strong, but we just use a harness to make it easier when walking. He’s really a low key puppy with a calm style of play. AJ recently went to adoption days, and had an understanding to be more gentle with young kids. While he is occasionally mouthy while excited, he is easily redirected. Because of his large size, AJ’s mouthiness could be overwhelming to young children and should be taken into consideration I told AJ he’s welcome at my home as long as it takes to find his forever home, but I also know that he is going to bring a lot of joy to his forever family/person! This pup is a 10/10 good boy!

11/28/21: Sweet AJ has been with me for a few weeks now! He is an absolute good boy. AJ is your typical loving pup. He loves to play with my dog and wrestle, but is also perfectly content wandering around with a squeaky toy or tennis ball. AJ loves to be next to me and will curl up on the couch and snooze as long as he can be close. AJ sleeps through the night and will lay right next to you. He does well in his crate. The first couple of days I had him, AJ would whine for a few minutes but now he settles in right away.

AJ is near perfect, but he does have a couple of puppy tendencies. When excited, he may get jumpy or mouthy, but very quickly redirects. It appears that AJ wasn’t given consistent potty training, so we have been working hard with that. He is now potty trained! AJ has learned to go to the door to show me he needs to go out and I have left him crated 4-5 hours so far with no accidents. He does sleep through the night without needing to be let out.

AJ would be the perfect addition to anyone looking for a companion but is also willing to be consistent in his training. He is extremely smart and not overly obnoxiously energetic. He is very good and treat-motivated which has helped our training. AJ knows sit and is starting to understand “leave it.”  I  believe that he has previously been around cats, and I would feel comfortable introducing him to other dogs or cats. If you are looking for an older puppy, AJ is your guy!
