Schmoozer is an old little man looking to spend his senior years taking naps on your lap in his forever home!
Foster Home Feedback
12/11/21: Schmoozer has spent the past couple of weeks recovering from having 25 teeth pulled. His new dental configuration has resulted in some mighty cute expressions. Sometimes his tongue sticks out a little. Sometimes his upper lip ends up under a lower tooth. The best is when he seems to be smiling. He's much happier being pain-free.
At no point was Schmoozer willing to miss any meals. He's disappointed that the only food and snacks he gets are the same ones the other four dogs in the house get. He can sit up for quite a while on his flat little bottom while he pitifully makes his appeal for people food, which may be how he achieved his level of portliness. For a gentleman of his size and years, he can be surprisingly playful. He and his foster brother, Murphy, like to chase each other around the yard and pretend they are actually wrestling. It's not a long match, but it is energetic.
Schmoozer, who was quiet when he first arrived, has discovered his voice and likes to share his thoughts about many subjects. He joins in the canine chorus of excitement at being set free into the yard. He assists in alerting me to any outdoor movement visible from the front window. Rumor has it that he is a good mouser, which I am willing to believe without definitive proof.
When he first arrived and met Murphy, they became a band of belly-band brothers. Schmoozer's interest in marking has subsided, but I do put him in a belly band while I'm at work. Mostly it stays dry. He does not appreciate wearing it and will growl his displeasure when I put it on, but he has never snapped or tried to bite me. I haven't kenneled him at all, and he does fine. If I need to find him, I check the nearest blanket.
Schmoozer would thrive in a gentle, quiet home, where he could get lots of attention and snuggles. If there are other dogs, they would need to respect his smallish size and advanced years. I don't know how he feels about cats. Competition for mice? Wrestle buddies? He hasn't shared his opinions with me on that. He's not on any medication, he sees and hears fine, loves going in the car, and snores just enough to be cute when sleeping on the bed.
With his sweet face whitened by time and his soulful brown eyes, Schmoozer is a heart-melter...and he makes a great lap warmer.
