11/17/2021: Zola is a ray of sunshine! She is so smart and all she wants to be is loved. She is dog friendly and cat friendly. She is a typical puppy that has a lot of energy and loves to chew on things. Zola can be easily redirected, but she may need a few reminders. She grew up in a barn and is very unsocialized. She needs someone to be patient with her as she learns to trust you. Zola understands to go potty outside but isn’t fully potty trained yet. She is very good about going pee outside, but we are working on pooping. If sleeps in your bed, she won’t have an accident all night!
Zola hasn’t been on a real walk yet because when the leash is on, she puts the brakes on. We are taking small steps to help her feel safe on a walk. We are just walking on a leash from the door to the gate. Once she is comfortable with that, we will go to the end of the driveway and so on. She is working on crate training and she will go in with an open door as a safe spot. But Zola has a hard time in the crate once the door is closed. She will bark and howl periodically the whole time you are gone. She has been getting better and goes longer periods without making a sound.
Zola doesn't know how to use the stairs yet. We were working on them but she slipped, and fell down two steps, and is now scared of them. If you have stairs that she will need to climb, you would need to carry her. She’s almost 40 lbs now and is still growing. Zola loves doing mental stimulation games, such as clicker training. She loves it when we throw treats outside and she has to find them. The first few days, she wanted pets and attention but was scared of us. She would only walk around and explore when your back is to her or you are not in her line of sight. She still gets that way at times, when someone she doesn't know is in her presence.
Zola is great at car rides. It took her a while to be able to go outside on her own but now she loves it! Zola especially loves the snow we had! She needs a home that is able to be patient with her as she becomes more comfortable with them and their routines. Once she becomes comfortable with your family, she will be your best friend! Since Zola is shy and takes a while to warm up to, she may need some slow introduction before heading off to her forever home.
