Foster Home Feedback

8/3/2022 Foster Feedback: Hawk is an excellent dog, all-around. He is well trained - knows sit, lay-down, stay, heal, shake, and comes immediately when he is called (when you use his original name). He is crate-trained, although we have not used his crate. He does have a tendency to “counter-surf” (and is pretty tall), but responds very well to an enthusiastic “No”. He is VERY affectionate, and is always incredibly happy to see you, especially in the morning. He was clearly raised with ‘furniture privileges’, and really thrives on snuggling on the couch or bed, which works for us. He loves any and all attention.

Hawk has a lot of energy and LOVES playing fetch. He is really good at it - great nose! He doesn’t quit until you do. We’ve averaged 2-4 mile/day in walks, which he also really likes. A rural setting would be ideal, since he loves being at our small farm. He is pretty vocal, especially in town. He tends to bark at most things passing by, so an apartment setting could prove difficult. He may initially be hyper in a new environment, but he has also calmed down in the short time we’ve been together.

He is very dog-friendly, and has really bonded with our resident dog. He has also done really well with every person he has met, large and small. He has a very sweet disposition and is always ready for any activity together, especially if it involves being outside.

Hawk does seem to have sensitive skin; we are trying a Science Diet blend formulated for that purpose. All in all, Hawk will make an excellent, very loving and energetic companion!

8/3/2022 Temporary Foster Feedback: Hawk is an amazing dog - he's kennel trained, potty trained, and enjoys the couch as much as he enjoys being active! We have two young children (under 4 years) and he enjoyed playing with them and was overall great, including a good passenger in the vehicle for daycare dropoff, but it would be best for him to be in a home with a little older kids who understand allowing him to have space when he's tuckered out. He walks nicely on a leash, knows basic commands, loooves to play fetch, and did well with every person he met. Hawk enjoyed chewing on benebones while at our house but never chewed any of our kids' toys, shoes, etc! The only thing to be aware of is his counter-surfing; he is so quick!!

We cannot say for certain, but we would not be surprised if he has been trained to hunt (he is an excellent retriever and will play fetch until your arm wears out, returns the ball on the perimeter of the yard, soft mouth, etc). Regardless, he is a smart dog who doesn't want to miss out on the action - including a slow attempt to join our kids in the bathtub!

If you're looking for a handsome fella who would love to be your best friend, Hawk is the dog for you!
