Foster Home Feedback

Not apartment-friendly

3/11/2023 Foster Feedback: A foot of snow doesn’t keep Jolt from enjoying the outdoors! She was not afraid to jump through the snow as deep as she is tall! In fact, she seemed to love it! It’s even more fun if she gets to dig for a tennis ball in all that snow! She was even willing to help us dig out the snowblower to clear the driveway (don’t worry, she was safe inside before the snowblower started!). If she loves the outdoors this much in winter, I can’t wait to see her with green grass and warm temps! She has no fear of water in the shower/bath….maybe she will be a lake girl!

3/1/2023 Foster Feedback: Jolt is nearing 4 months old. She recently decided to show us just how grown up she is getting! Usually one of her foster parents is with her throughout the day, but the past 2 weeks caused her adjust to time in the kennel - 4 hours at a time. I'm proud to say that she passed with flying colors! She was actually a little excited that I was going to work in the morning because it meant she got a frozen filled kong in her kennel! She is not nearly as vocal in her kennel as she used to be! I can't say that she won't bark or whine at all, but she seems to have more quiet time than not!

We recently got to visit Three Dog Bakery in West Fargo for a 4Luv event. Jolt is getting used to outings like this and loved meeting all kinds of new people. She was initially a little shy, but it didn't take long before she realized that all these nice people just wanted to give her attention, pets and an occasional treat. She was great with adults and kids alike! When we were done, she was rewarded with a pup cake from the bakery - as shown in one of the pictures. Based on how quickly she snarfed it down, it must have been delicious!

She still loves chasing after tennis balls, but has also discovered that frisbees are fun too. We are trying to get one or more walks per day. She can be squirmy putting her harness on but then she's off to the races! The leash opens up a whole new world for her and she enjoys taking it all in.

Jolt has been great about taking a bath and her short coat dries fast. Bonus...She sheds very little! I have been able to clip her nails several times on my own. She is very curious about what I am doing and seems to think we are playing, but I can eventually get them all clipped. An extra person to feed treats or distract her would make the process even quicker!

Last, but certainly not least for updates...potty training. Things seemed to have clicked in the last couple of days and she has not had any accidents!!!!  We are so proud of her progress!
She has her active, playful times throughout the day but is very content when I finally sit down on the couch to relax. She curls up next to me and is just happy to sleep nearby. Belly rubs are a bonus!

Jolt is growing up fast but shows us every day that she loves exploring her world, is always up for new adventures and loves spending time with her people and dog friends!

1/31/2023 Foster Feedback: Jolt is now 3 months old and is learning and growing every day! We have been fortunate enough to have experienced this since she was 6 weeks old.

She has made so much progress but is also still a young puppy with more to learn. We have already started some basic training and she seems to pick it up quickly. Jolt is very food motivated so if you have a tasty treat in your hand, she is ready to please to be rewarded! We use puzzle feeders to give her mental stimulation while filling her growing belly! She is very smart with lots of puppy energy so physical and mental exercise is the perfect combination.

Jolt loves playing with our big dogs. One of them entertains her puppy playfulness! She loves being chased, rolling around being submissive, and trying to take the tennis ball out of his mouth! Speaking of tennis balls, that is her new favorite toy! She could chase after it over and over again! She brings it back but doesn’t readily drop it yet. As a teething puppy, bones, and antlers are go-to toys. Plus if something squeaks, it really gets her attention!

She LOVES playing outside and exploring our fenced-in yard. Although the recent sub-zero temps have caused her to rethink being out very long, above-zero cold weather doesn’t phase her! Despite her love of being outside in the snow, she also loves laying near a heat register or a fireplace! If you need a companion for outdoor activities in the winter, she’s your girl!

Jolt enjoys going for car rides. She is working on potty training and walking on a leash. She doesn’t love being left in a kennel for very long, but we are working on helping her be more comfortable in it. Filled kongs help distract her for a little while!

One thing she has mastered is bedtime. She sleeps with us all night without an accident or needing to go out. She doesn’t always need a lot of human snuggle time during the day but bedtime is different! During the day, she prefers to snuggle up with a big dog!

She is at a great age to train her to be the best dog she can be.

1/2/2023 Foster Feedback: Jolt just turned 8 weeks old and is learning and growing every day!  We have been fostering Jolt for 2 weeks and have seen her grow and adapt so much in a short period of time! She is spunky, sweet, adventurous, and a snuggler all wrapped into one cute puppy!

Although potty training is still a work in progress at her age, she was quick to understand that when we are outside, it’s time to go potty! This also happened during our really cold stretch in December. Once the weather “warmed” up above zero, she was ready to explore the paths shoveled in the backyard. She loves to be outside, running through the snow and following our large resident dogs. She plays hard then sleeps hard!

Right now her favorite toys include squeaky/crinkly toys, tennis balls, and bones/antlers to chew on. She adjusts quickly to being redirected to appropriate toys and is very treat motivated…making future training sessions easier! She would love to show you what a quick learner she is!  After a good training/play session, she would be happy to snuggle up next to you for a good nap!
