Foster Home Feedback
** Dog-Selective, Needs Slow Introductions to Other Dogs
7/16/23 Foster Feedback: Souffle is a beautiful pit mix, with her variegated amber fur, white socks, dark features, and big smile. She is also a total sweetheart who loves to give hugs and kisses, and she wants to be everyone's best friend. Her favorite activities are chewing on a bone, playing tug, exploring the wildflower garden for grass to eat, and wrassling with her dog friend.
Souffle has impressed at every turn. At first she seemed interested in eating our dog, but now they're best friends. She's a pro at kenneling, but causes no problems when left to roam free. Also, she loves to sleep in our bed and doesn't try to play or be otherwise active at night, but she'll happily sleep in her kennel. She was said to have resource guarding issues, but it looks like that was new-dog issues, there are no problems now that she is friends with her foster brother. She hasn't had a single accident in the house, which is only unusual when compared to other foster dogs that are going through such major changes.
We also thought she would knock over small children with her exuberance, but she settled in after a few minutes of meeting visiting toddlers and was very gentle and considerate. They were only visitors, though; please ensure small children understand that she might want to give them kisses and hugs, especially when she first sees them.
Souffle is a very good listener and is also treat-motivated. She is excellent at sit, shake, and leave-it, and we are continuing work on off, lay down, come, and heel. She can be a puller on walks, especially when she sees or hears another dog nearby.
Which brings me to the only imperfection with this otherwise amazing girl: she'll need slow introductions to other dogs, which will probably improve as she's more comfortable with her situation and her people. It took a week for her to warm up to our dog (we just needed to keep them apart by a couple of feet while they got used to each other) but that was after a couple of weeks in the shelter so I think she'll settle into a new home within a few days. A long weekend together for getting to know you and her new dog sibling(s) would be an ideal start in her forever home.
Cats haven't been tested, I think she would hate them but see above, she might surprise on that front as well. I know she charges our neighbor's cat when she sees it inside their sliding door, but that's about how she reacted to her current best friend when they first met.
Set up a meeting with Souffle today, we think you'll love her!
6/21/23 Volunteer Feedback: I’ve had the joy of volunteering at our shelter a few times during Miss Soufflé’s stay, and each time I’m baffled as to why/how she’s still with us. Then, I realized that there isn’t any feedback yet to brag about this AMAZING girl. Soufflé is easily an all time top 5 favorite for me. She is so sweet, smart, playful and lovable. She walks beautifully on her leash. She knows sit and shake (probably more, I just didn’t ask!) She appears to understand that potties happen outside because she keeps her kennel clean from what I can see. She doesn’t get into mischief while at the shelter so I’d believe she’d make a great house lady. She loves playing fetch and snuggling on the couch. During our shift today, we had a group of additional volunteers from an outside agency in the building to help out and Soufflé was a social butterfly. She assumed everyone was there to meet and pet her, she soaks up the love. Consider taking this loaf home today. She’s the best!
