09/11/2023 Foster Feedback: Penguin has been enjoying the last bits of summer. She gets very excited for her walks and would make a great walking or running buddy! Her profile says she is dog-selective, and I want to clarify what I've seen after spending the last two months with her. She doesn't bark at other dogs that walk by our home. We've been working on staying calm when we see other dogs while walking and Penguin is doing great with this; I'm so proud of her! She does well being in close proximity to most dogs (walking by them on the opposite side of the street, adoption events, etc.), but there are some dogs she just would prefer not to interact closely with. She seems curious about other dogs, but we haven't seen any interest in playing with them.
Penguin is calm and loves relaxing in our house and keeping an eye on her people. She LOVES people (adults and the kids she has met) and would make a great family dog! Penguin is not much of a cuddler, but if you want to see pure joy, tell her it's time for her walk or some fetch. This sweet girl would love a family to call her own!
08/19/2023 Foster Feedback: Penguin continues to enjoy spending time outside and watching for squirrels. She LOVES when we work on training; she’s such a smart girl!
As Penguin has gotten more comfortable in our home, we’ve seen more of her personality come through. We had a puppy stay with us recently, Penguin tolerated the puppy but ignored her for the most part and didn’t want to play. She has been at several adoption events with other dogs and has done very well, but is showing us that she isn’t a dog who will want to meet or be friends with every dog. Potential adopters will need to continue working with her on feeling comfortable and confident as well as advocating for her around other dogs.
Penguin has been great with our three older resident kids. She’s met some younger kids and has done great with them as well!
07/28/2023 Foster Feedback: Penguin has been with us for a week and a half and has been the easiest houseguest! She is a very calm dog and does well with both kids and adults. Most of her time is spent sleeping on the couch or soaking up belly rubs from our kids. She loves to play fetch and enjoys 'throwing' the ball to herself in between our tosses (it's just as adorable as you might imagine). The only times I've heard her bark is when a delivery driver comes up to the our front door; she will let out a few deep barks to let us know that someone is here, but isn't aggressive in any way. She isn't bothered by people or dogs walking by our house.
Penguin successfully met several dogs at her first adoption event. When meeting a family member's senior dog recently, she sniffed the senior dog but otherwise left him alone.
She LOVES to be outside and walks fairly well on the leash. She loves to sniff everything on her walks so we alternate between fast walking and stopping to take in all the smells. She has gone on a few short runs and seemed to really enjoy that as well! Penguin visited the lake last weekend and while she wasn't sure of swimming in the lake just yet, she loved her boat rides and chasing bugs!
We haven't tried crating Penguin in our home. She's been left alone at home for short intervals and has done great. She only plays with her dog toys and hasn't gotten into anything she isn't supposed to. She sleeps in a dog bed at night and doesn't make a peep all night. She quickly discerned which couch she is allowed on and which ones are for human use only. Penguin is truly a gem!
