Katya has been diagnosed with anxiety/compulsions that cause her to chase her tail/spin in circles. This has been well managed with daily medications, and she has been nearly spin free for several months! She is currently on Fluoxetine 10mg once a day, the cost is $14.00 per month and Gabapentin 600mg two times a day at $26 per month. The cost may vary by vet clinic or pharmacy. Behavior medications may require changes in dosages or type of medication depending on your veterinarians recommendations.
Katya is such a sweet little girl who is looking to give all the kisses
Foster Home Feedback
8/25/25 Sitter Feedback: We've had to pleasure to foster-sit Miss Katya (affectionately known as Pig) a couple times now and she is such a sweet, spunky, silly girl. Here are some things we learned about this sweet gal while she was here:
- This girl welcomes all the lovin' from everyone she encounters. She really enjoys being next to humans for pets, snuggles, and treats. She does great with my kids (13 and 9) and my tall bearded husband. They adore her and love having her visit.
- She respects the baby gates we have due to our skittish 18yo cat. She seems to be cat friendly but my cat likes her own space. There was no barking or jumping the gate when she saw my cat behind the gate, just a few little whimpers because she really wanted to play and meet my cat. After that, she didn't even try again to meet my cat and let her be in peace.
- Katya rides great in the car and is a great co-captain in the car. She will not tell you how to drive (not vocal at all), just wants to sit towards the front with you (or passenger seat if empty) and be a part of the navigation process.
- Katya really enjoys her naps and appears to be able to sleep anywhere. On her back on the floor, half falling off the couch, right next to a human, etc. Ha! She slept really well at night with us in the same room and didn't get into anything she shouldn't have. She loves her cuddles.
- Katya absolutely LOVES being outside when the weather is nice, not that she has to be on the go outside, but she loves that wind in her fur and will sit as she watches everything going on around her. I moved my outside storage bench to the deck because she loves to be up high if she can and she really enjoyed being up there to watch. She will also enjoy a good nap/bake session in the sun when possible.
- Katya really enjoys her walks but can pull on the leash at times if she should see a rabbit or another dog that she wants to be friends with. She will graciously great humans of all sizes on the walks and welcomed all the love she gets when we go out in public. For the pulling, she has been getting better with each walk, learning the route more and is able to be redirected - string cheese is a great treat for her.
- Katya had done great going out in public with us such as soccer and football camps, where we were able to watch the kids and also tried to get pet by anyone who walked by and welcomed all the extra love.
- Katya did great on a family outing when we took her for a round of frisbee disc golfing and walked nicely as we played. And like many other dogs, there were only a couple times that she was very interested in trying to see what was in the tall grass when she pulled a bit in that direction. And again, was able to be redirected. Katya will do everything in her power to protect your home and flowers from those pesky rabbits. Those are her sworn enemies. Ha!
We also have a 4-foot chain link fence and while she is good for the most part, she did jump/climb our fence to go sniff the neighbor's yard with the neighbors two dogs her second night with us. Since then, we've used a tie out or a 20-foot nylon leash for her to roam about the yard just to be on the safe side and for my own reassurance that she is safe in our yard while staying with us. She gets along great with the back neighbor dogs but she hasn't learned (yet) that she can't invite herself over for playdates. Ha! I also don't have a dog of my own so I think she was really wanting to play with a fur-buddy and was missing her foster fur-siblings with her first time here. I did get her a giant stuffed frog to "play wrestle" with for her second time with us because we thought it would be fun for her to have "someone" her own size for playtime. It has not been necessary for her because she loves all types of toys and puzzles when she wants to play.
Katya is truly an amazing girl who has so much love to give. She will make a great addition to any household looking for a sweet goofy loveable girl.
7/12/25 Foster Feedback: Let me tell you about the sweetest baby girl—Katya. She’s an absolute gem, and we love her more than words can say. But it’s not just us—everyone who meets her falls in love almost instantly. Katya is a joyful little goofball with the most heartwarming personality. She brings light and laughter wherever she goes and is so ready to share that love with a forever family of her own.
Katya LOVES having a playful canine companion to play with. But when one of those is not available she will provide her humans with plenty of amusement while she entertains herself. She will grab a toy and occupy herself, run and frolic in the backyard or gnaw on a bone. When she’s done with her short energy burst, she’s ready to crawl onto the couch with you and snuggle in for a good long nap. Girlfriend is a big snuggler. This girl truly is the best of both worlds.
An exciting update from her previous feedback is that she has not demonstrated a single instance of compulsive spinning since April (yay!). Katya’s foster family feels that we’ve seen her make a full recovery. She is no longer demonstrating any of the anxious behaviors we saw while she recovered from her tail injury.
Katya kennels all day while her foster family is at work, we keep an eye on her with our doggy cam and she naps the day away and only moves to reposition every so often. Katya sleeps on the couch with her foster brother or snuggled up to her foster parents in bed at night time. She’s potty trained, too! Katya loves going on walks — when she’s the only dog on a walk she walks very nicely. Her foster family is working on her showing these nice walking skills while she is on a group walk with her foster brothers.
Katya is an absolute joy and so fun to have around. This sweet girl loves with her whole heart and can’t wait to meet her forever family to show them just how much love she has to give.
5/26/2025 Foster Feedback: Katya is a sweet, snuggly, playful little loaf of love. She loves all people, she's dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and excels in bird watching. While she is very playful and enjoys tug, fetch, running around with her foster brothers, or some good old doggy wrestling, she's also incredibly snuggly and is down to nap next to you on the couch a majority of the time.
One of her favorite activities is neighborhood watch. Katya takes her post at the top of the deck to watch out over the backyard very seriously. Her favorite backyard spot is the heated seat she's found on top of the hot tub.
While Katya is thriving now, unfortunately, she hasn't had an easy path. She suffered a tail injury back in October and spent the winter recovering and working toward getting her back to the wonderful and sweet girl she is. Her foster family is very excited to report that after 7 long months, Katya is finally ready to find her forever family.
Katya will need a family who can give her some time to acclimate to a new space. This might look like spending the first day or two at home with her before having to leave her alone for an extended period of time, going outside with her for her first couple of trips to the bathroom, and/or just allowing her to sniff and explore her new home.
Katya is very comfortable in her foster home and can be kenneled during the day while her foster parents are at work with no issues. She enjoys having a Kong and a bone to occupy her time, but spends most of her day sleeping. At night, she sleeps on the couch next to her foster brother; though her favorite nights are the ones where she is allowed to sleep in bed with her foster parents because she loves snuggling -- if you could ask her, the bed would be her first pick. After working through this while she battled her injury, she is also finally potty trained and only does her business outside.
Katya's family calls her Pig because of the little piggy snorts and sounds she makes. This girl sees herself as a lap dog and will make herself cozy right on top of you. Your feet will never be cold again as she will sit on them to keep you warm and protected. This girl is a wonderful mix of loving, playful, snuggly, goofy and smart. People tend to fall in love with her pretty quickly and she happily reciprocates it. Katya is going to be a little rescue jackpot for someone.
5/12/25 Foster Home Feedback: Katya is sweet and mild mannered; she loves napping on the couch and playing in the yard. She walks well on a leash, enjoys the company of her foster siblings, and loves people. This little girl is amenable to meeting new people and warms up almost immediately. She likes treats and scratches and puzzle games. Katya would do well in a home that could keep her engaged and active but also wants a pup that likes naps.
8/26/2024 Foster Feedback: We’ve had Katya with us for about a week and have quickly fallen in love with her. She is a sweet, playful little goofball. Katya loves playing with her foster brothers by chasing them around and wrestling- she definitely has a lot of personality. Her foster brothers don't have as much energy as her so she entertains herself often too. She enjoys playing fetch and chewing on toys and bones; she sticks to doggy-approved items and hasn’t tried chewing on anything she shouldn’t! With that being said, she is still a pup in that mouthy phase, so she does nibble on us humans when playing, but we are working on redirecting that and she does well!
