8/21/2025 Volunteer Feedback: I spent the afternoon with Valais yesterday, and he was such a joy. Before getting in the car, he was pulling pretty hard on the leash, but with a reminder to slow down and some redirection, he settled right in—even sitting when asked.
Once we got going, he did amazing in the car! He loved hanging out in the back but couldn’t resist sneaking up front a couple of times for some extra pets. He also got to enjoy a pup cup (drool monster alert!) and licked it clean!
Back at the shelter, we relaxed together, and I discovered that although Valais weighs about 80 pounds, he’s convinced he’s a lap dog. He would love to be your best friend and cuddle buddy!!
8/14/25 Volunteer Feedback: Valais is a super sweet dog who does super great in the car. He is definitely one of my favorite dogs and is so extremely sweet and smart!!
7/19/25 Volunteer Feedback: I recently took Valais on a kennel break while I was on vacation, and my own dog was at the lake. I’m not sure when Val was last able to relax in a home setting, so even just two days away from the shelter seemed to be incredibly beneficial for him. He really had a chance to decompress, and it showed.
Valais did great on walks. He had a couple of reactions to one particular dog who instigated things, but otherwise, he was phenomenal. He does have a strong prey drive—he’s definitely interested in squirrels and bunnies, so he’ll pull a bit when he sees them. When it’s time to head back home or to the kennel, he tries to stretch out his time outside by rolling around and taking his sweet time—he clearly loves being outdoors and enjoying the moment.
At home, Valais just wanted to relax. He enjoyed the quiet, calm environment and was perfectly content lounging around and napping throughout the day. I let him sleep with me, because why not—after so much time in a shelter, he deserved it. He’s a total cuddle bug and a bit of a bed hog, but in the best way.
He also met my mom and was very sweet and happy to see her. When I had to leave the house, I set him up in a spare bedroom with a crate and a bed, and he stayed there with the door shut. When I returned, everything was exactly as I left it—nothing was destroyed, and he greeted me with so much joy.
Valais is truly a wonderful dog. He just wants love, comfort, and a home where he can be spoiled a little. Please don’t overlook him—he’s a great companion and absolutely deserves the best.
5/12/25 Building Volunteer Feedback: Valais and I had an amazing afternoon filled with a long walk full of all the sniffs he could get. Valais was so brave when cars drove by. He would look up at me to show me he was not scared and was so tough. There was one dog that he couldn't quite decide if he liked or not. It took a little sweet talking for him to realize it was his reflection on the side of a car. Valais has honestly become the best dog on a leash. We walked with a loose leash the whole walk. The only thing he was super scared of was some Tyvek that was flapping in the wind. With some words of confidence and string cheese, we made it past it with a little barking, moving on to enjoy the rest of our walk.
4/29/25 Building Volunteer Feedback: Valais is a sweet and gentle pup who thrives on affection and playtime. His love for tennis balls and his cherished blankie showcases his playful and loving nature, and his soulful gaze is truly captivating. His intelligence shines through as he listens attentively and confidently performs his sit and shake commands. He is easily amused and finds joy in even the simplest things, such as flopping happily with his deflated basketball.
Away from the shelter, Valais walks beautifully on a leash, demonstrating his ability to focus and enjoy his surroundings. His excitement around other dogs, particularly when barriers are involved, is an area of growth. However, this enthusiasm reflects his eagerness to engage, and with patience, guidance, and a supportive environment, he has the potential to gain confidence and feel more at ease.
Overall, Valais is a loving, playful companion who finds comfort in simple pleasures—especially his beloved blankie. His affectionate nature and intelligent demeanor make him a wonderful match for the right home.
Building Volunteer Feedback 4/18/25: Valais is a very chonky and handsome pit mix. He was scared of me a couple of weeks ago when I first met him but was so happy and affectionate today. His favorite activities are going for walks and chasing balls in the yard. His smile will melt your heart, and he would love to spend afternoons on the couch with you!
